Attic Insulation & Ventilation
Combined to Save you money!
Attic
ventilation is critical to keep the attic space at
reasonable temperatures or it can impact the roofs and air
conditioner lifespan. The heat
and humidity causes the roof to stay hotter longer and makes
the air conditioner units run all day costing you money in
maintenance, repairs and increases your electric bill.
We now install the best solar
attic vents / solar attic fans
on the market with an exclusive
25 year direct manufacture
warranty.
We believe our customers should expect the
best value & best green solutions on the market. We are
now able to deliver the best in class when it comes to
Solar Attic Fans

Roofing materials: Damage and
Shortened Lifespan
Roofing materials absorb solar radiation as
heat. This causes two concerns:
1. Effect of heat on roofing-covering material
lifespan. Roof-covering material deterioration is
largely the result of thermal expansion and contraction. The
amount of expansion and contraction taking place is directly
related to the differences between daily high and low roof
temperatures, so keeping the roof cool helps minimize
temperature swings and extend the life of the roof-covering
material.
2. Heat from the roof is transferred to the living
space. Heat transferred into the home from the roof
will raise cooling costs during the warm season. Heat from
the roof is mostly radiated to the living space rather than
transferred by conduction or convection. For this reason,
ventilation has less effect on the amount of heat
transferred from the roof to the living space than if
conduction or convection were the main heat-transfer forces.

Roof vents- Roof vents are individual
ventilators which are basically covers for holes cut in the
roof. Holes cut for roof vents are typically about 1 square
foot.
Gable vents- gable vents are installed in
the gabled ends of homes. They are much more effective if
installed on the upwind and downwind sides of the home,
which means to be effective, the roofs ridge must align with
the prevailing winds. This allows positive and negative air
pressure to help move air through the attic space.
Continuous ridge vent- when installing a
ridge vent, roof sheathing at the peak of the roof is cut
back enough to leave a gap, typically 3 inches, along the
peak of the roof. This gap is then covered using one of
several available methods designed to keep moisture and
insects out of the attic. Continuous ridge vents are more
effective if a baffle is installed, and if the roofs ridge
is perpendicular to the prevailing winds.

Installing
solar vents is quick and doesn't cost much in terms of
equipment, materials, or electrical wiring. Because the
vents are powered by solar energy, they will function for
many years without any increase in your energy bill. If
anything, you will see a decrease in your energy
consumption, especially in the summer months because you'll
use the air conditioner less often.
Most vents come complete with a vent, fan, and solar panel
that can be attached to the roof very easily with no more
than a few screws. You can replace existing vents with a
solar version in minutes.
If you want to install gable vents, you can order special
vents that fit easily into existing gable vent positions.
Most gable solar vents can be used for areas between 1200
sq. ft. and 2000 sq. ft. and are available in 10-watt or
20-watt units for maximum energy storage.
By replacing your vents with those that work constantly to
circulate air through your attic or crawlspace, you will
reduce your chances of mold accumulation, increase the
amount of time before making repairs to the roof, and your
home will be protected from internal damage caused by
increased temperatures and wood rot.
Installing a solar power attic fan can keep your property
safe, lower energy us and more importantly, can protect your
family's health.
Attic Insulation | Blown Insulation
Houston Texas
Properly insulating and air sealing your
attic will help reduce your energy bills. Attics are often
one of the easiest places in a house to insulate, especially
if you'd like to add insulation.
Attic Insulation Techniques
Loose-fill or batt insulation is typically installed in an
attic. Although installation costs may vary, loose-fill
insulation is usually less expensive to install than batt
insulation. When installed properly, loose-fill insulation
also usually provides better coverage.
Before installing any type of insulation in your attic,
follow these steps:
-
Seal all attic-to-home air leaks. Most
insulation does not stop airflow.
-
Duct exhaust fans to the outside.
Use a tightly constructed box to cover fan housing
on attic side. Seal around the duct where it exits
the box. Seal the perimeter of the box to the
drywall on attic side.
-
Cover openings—such as dropped
ceilings, soffits, and bulkheads—into attic area
with plywood and seal to the attic side of the
ceiling.
-
Seal around chimney and framing with
a high-temperature caulk or furnace cement.
-
At the tops of interior walls, use
long-life caulk to seal the smaller gaps and holes.
Use expanding foam or strips of rigid foam board
insulation for the larger gaps.
-
Install blocking (metal flashing) to
maintain fire-safety clearance requirements (usually 3
inches) for heat-producing equipment found in an attic,
such as flues, chimneys, exhaust fans, and light
housings/fixtures unless the light fixtures are IC
(insulation contact) rated. IC-rated lights are airtight
and can be covered with insulation.
-
Make sure insulation doesn't block
soffit vents to allow for attic ventilation.
-
Check the attic ceiling for water stains
or marks. They indicate roof leaks or lack of
ventilation. Make repairs before you insulate. Wet
insulation is ineffective and can damage your home.
Also insulate and air seal your attic access
if it's located in a conditioned part of the house.
You'll want to properly insulate and air seal any knee
walls—vertical walls with attic space directly behind
them—in your home as well.
Finally, if you're constructing a new home or remodeling,
make sure any attic decking, which provides additional
storage space or a platform for an HVAC unit or hot water
tank, is raised above the ceiling joists to ensure proper
insulation depth. The decking then should be installed
securely to the top of the raised lumber after the
insulation has been installed.
